A shared calendar only works if everyone can read it. Grandpa who no longer sees the small print clearly, a teammate who perceives colour differently, you on your phone in bright sunlight. That is why we built Planninn so no one is left out, with two things we are quietly proud of.
Comfort view, larger text, larger buttons, more contrast
One tap and Planninn becomes calmer and easier to read:
- Larger text and buttons on tablet and laptop, everything scales together: text, buttons and spacing, so mis-taps happen less.
- More contrast on every screen, phones included, brighter text and clearer borders.
- Remembered per person. Turn on grandpa’s comfort view and yours does not change, everyone keeps their own setting.
You switch it on with the Comfort view button in the menu, or via Display. Handy for anyone who wants things bigger and calmer, not just older users.
Colour-blind friendly, colours everyone can tell apart
About 1 in 12 men is colour-blind, so a family or team often includes someone. Planninn takes that into account:
- A colour-blind-safe theme (based on the scientific Okabe-Ito set) where important signals never rely on red-versus-green alone, exactly the distinction that is hardest for colour-blind people.
- A colour-blind-safe palette in the colour picker, with colour names Blue, Orange, Green, Vermillion, Reddish-purple, Sky blue, Yellow and Black. So you recognise a calendar by its name too, not just its colour.
Who benefits from this?
Accessibility sounds like it is for one group, but in practice almost everyone gains from it now and then:
- Grandma and grandpa who no longer see small print clearly, larger text makes following along easy again.
- You, outside in bright sunlight more contrast keeps your calendar readable on a glary screen.
- Tired eyes at the end of the day a calmer, roomier screen saves squinting.
- Children just learning to read larger letters and clear, named colours help.
- Someone colour-blind on your team names alongside the colours prevent confusion over who belongs where.
In short: what we built out of necessity for one person is simply more comfortable for everyone else.
How to set it up for your family
- Have everyone turn on their comfort view the setting is remembered per person, so no one is stuck with someone else's view.
- Pick the colour-blind-safe theme via Display if someone at home sees colours differently.
- Give each family member a recognisable colour from the safe palette, with its name, so it is clear even without the colour.
- Test it together on a phone, ideally outside, so you know everyone can read it well.
Frequently asked questions
Does comfort view change the calendar for all family members?
No. Comfort view is remembered per person: if someone turns it on, your view does not change. Everyone keeps their own setting.
Does the improved readability work on my phone too?
Yes. More contrast applies on every screen, phones included. The larger text and buttons come into their own mainly on tablet and laptop, where there is more room.
Do I need a separate accessible version of Planninn?
No. Comfort view and the colour-blind-safe colours are built right into the app, there is nothing separate to install or request.
Why are there names next to the colours?
So you recognise a calendar by its name and not only by its colour. For someone who perceives colour differently, that prevents confusion over who belongs where.
Why we do this
Planning is something you do together, so everyone should be able to take part. No separate ‘accessibility version’, just built in. Privacy-first and made in the Netherlands.
